As the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 approaches, we know that many of you are eager to understand how the transition will impact addons, mods, and liveries from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Like the rest of the community, we at Flightsim.to are still awaiting more information about cross-compatibility between the two simulators. It remains to be seen whether most addons will work seamlessly as announced, or if unupdated addons will encounter issues or even become entirely unusable. As we will not have this information until the next iteration of the simulator is released, we will have to wait.

Current Steps and Plans

• Compatibility Settings for Creators: To prepare for this transition, creators already have the option to set the compatibility of their addons on Flightsim.to as:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 only

  • Both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 only

• As a creator, you can change this setting for each of your mods on the File Modification page. You can upload multiple versions of your add-ons, e.g. you can upload a version for MSFS2020 and a version for MSFS2024 in the same file, allowing users to decide which version they would like to download.

• As a user, the compatibility of an add-on will be indicated below its description. We may also introduce a compatibility indicator on each item tile as you browse.

• Post-Release Adjustments: Once MSFS2024 is released and we gain clarity on compatibility, we will take further steps as needed. This may include:

  • Introducing additional filters for compatibility.

  • Creating a dedicated MSFS2024 section on Flightsim.to to streamline addon browsing and organization.

Once the simulator is released, we encourage you to share your experiences and insights regarding how MSFS2024 impacts existing mods, addons, and liveries. Your feedback will help us identify compatibility issues and improve our platform’s organization and functionality.
